Here's to hump day!

Happy Wednesday everyone. So on the weekend I caught up with some of my oldest and dearest friends that I've known for 10+ years and their little bubs. I love those types of friends where you can pick up where you left off and it's as if there was no time between visits.

My good friend Nao and her little boy Leo are always great hosts and I gave them gluten free cupcakes in exchange for a cuppa! I did however in my naive, first blog, crazy baby lady mode forget to take photos of them enjoying said cakes! So I asked Nao to send me one the following day and well this is what I got back, all gone!

Nao has been gluten and partially dairy/meat free for as long as I can remember, like I'm talking since we were 12/13 years old. Going into this business venture I wanted to make sure I could cater for everyone be it GF, vegan whatever! Luckily I took some photos BEFORE I dropped them off.

So long story short, if you are wanting to order some cakes for an event or just because (I've had plenty of those orders already!) please don't hesitate to contact me for any diary requirements or even if you would just like to know what is in them! I'm not one of those people who have 'secret recipes' because to me the quality of the baked goodies comes down to who is making them!

I also got to see my mum and little sister, who I seriously think would roll me for a batch of my cupcakes, they'll attest to that! After seeing my first rainbow experiment they too decided that's what they wanted! Luckily for me they turned out quite well!

Everyone meet Danielle. Not my big sister, or my twin but my little sister! I hear you might be asking yourself 'But Karlee, it looks like she's eating that in a cafe?!', well she was. It happened to be the Engine Room cafe (check them out here engineroomcafe.com.au) in Toowoomba which is a family favourite of ours for delicious breakfasts and lunches and who knows, maybe my cupcakes soon!

Again, I always make sure the external looks good incase the internal well, looks like shit...

That's enough of me for today, I'm going home to make a batch of just because cupcakes for every at work so they look fatter and make me look skinnier, everyone (mainly myself) wins!

Ahhhhhh Friday. Go away Rebecca Black

Well, it's now the end of another glorious week in sunny Brisbane and I am over my lovely viral infection. Last night I got a little creative as I keep seeing rainbow cakes online and knew I wanted to try my hand at them. I made sure I decorated them nicely incase the inside turned a weird browny greeny colour...ew.

The funnest part of this experiment was bringing them to work (aka my crew of taste testers) and seeing them cut open and it was like the scene in Snow White where all the little animals appeared and butterflies and birdies oh my!

Now as you can see I haven't used traditional rainbow colours as I am pretty partial to turquoise and purple. The yellow you can see actually started on the top part of the cake, ah the magic of my 1970s oven never ceases to amaze/annoy me. I was also too slow to get action shots of my taste testers as I am pretty sure they were swallowed like a newly hatched bird eating its first meal. I did however find some totally awesome cupcakes boxes while losing my shit in Robins Kitchen at Carindale, 2 for $5 exsqueeze me! I did the obvious and sensible thing and loaded up my crossed arms with as many as I could, but I'll be going back.

This weekend for me entails a trip home to visit the family and friends in frosty Toowoomba. I'll also be trying my hand at some gluten free cupcakes for one of my good friends who is Coeliac so I'll post the results on Monday! TTFN!

Hip hip hooray!

So this week I had the pleasure of whipping up some vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream topped with orange and black fondant love hearts for my soon to be cousin Zoe. I loved her theme, with everyone dressing in black or white cocktail and the birthday girl in a super cute peachy dress. Quick thanks to mum for her help too while I've been out of action!

I remember my 21st a few years ago and having a family friend make my cake (which to me was even more special). All I cared about was having a damn good cake, oh and some damn good karaoke of course.

I have to say the more orders I am doing for special occasions whether it be birthdays, baby showers or engagements, I definitely feel a certain responsibility to my clients as these are all big and generally life changing events.

To say I am excited about this venture is an understatement. I think it is very important to try and find what you love to do in life and if you can, make a career out of it! After all, life is too short to be climbing them damn corporate ladders!

The time hath commeth...finally

Welcome everyone, firstly let me point out that the use of my Ye Olde English will stop with that title. Thank you for taking the time to stop by and see what I am all about. I want to use this blog platform as a way to share what I love, why I love it and how I don't weigh 300kgs (yet)  from baking so much.

Baking has always been a love of mine and I think the two main people I have to thank for that are my Nan and my Aunty Kerri. I will admit my early years of baking did disgustingly consist of using PACKET MIXES ( you may now collect you jaws off the floor), only because a) it was a hell of a lot easier and b) I couldn't possibly make something so delicious from scratch! Over the years I experimented with many a recipe and definitely had a lot of questionable tasting cakes and other baked goods (sorry to anyone who didn't want to hurt my feelings and told me they were delicious anyway).

I cannot forget to mention my mother and sister or they would totally kill me. Mum bought me my very first Kitchen Aid a few months ago and cupcake life has not been the same in this household. They are both extremely supportive and my number 1 and 2 'quality control testers' aka lickers of the bowl. I should also make mention about the good looking human that I live with and now have to refer to as my FiancĂ© or as he likes to call me his 'finances', hardy har har Ben.

So, tag along with me if you dare, I promise to entertain, make you cringe and most importantly make you want a cupcake at least once a day. Holla!!!
